Good morning. Here is what happened in India and around the world today, told simply, with a line or two on why each story matters to you.
Money Matters
RBI Raises Interest Rates to 5.5%, and Says Don't Expect Cuts Soon
The Reserve Bank of India has pushed its main lending rate, the repo rate, up from 5.25% to 5.5%. This is the rate at which the RBI lends to banks, and it quietly shapes what you pay on a home loan or car loan and what you earn on a fixed deposit. The Governor also hinted that relief is not coming anytime soon.
What it means for you: If your loan is linked to the repo rate, your EMI may creep up in the coming months. Savers, on the other hand, could see slightly better returns on deposits. Check with your bank for exact changes.
